Cadillac Convertible Custom Restoration Interior Structure

Cadillac Convertible Custom Restoration Interior Structure

This weed saw the completion of the structural work to finish the convertible top design.  The rain channel is complete, modified from the Buick design to the Cadillac design.  All of the work has to be custom fabricated, this isn’t an off-the-shelf project!

The center section of the convertible top opening requires the construction of a custom filler piece between the Buick channel and the Cadillac body shape.  This piece has been perfectly constructed so that a minimum of body filler will be required for the finish.

“Hey, wait, that looks just like the first photo!”  Yup, the right side of the car is much the same as the left side.  But I just had to show you what it looks like, too.  I kind of wish I lived in a cable TV car building show where things get built in 7 days.  But, this is the real world and it takes one full week to build all the sheetmetal necessary for a correct installation of a convertible top mechanism in a custom Cadillac.

The rest of the restoration is going on nicely, too.  Engine builder in California is doing his thing, wheels are being built, the front suspension is complete and installed on the frame, and mock-up parts for the engine are in the mail so we can begin frame modifications for installing that fire breathing monster.
