There’s just a ton of labor that goes into this kind of project!  The last update on this project showed the car after the high-build primer had been applied.  Now it all gets sanded by hand.  The high-build primer is a polyester product that fills small imperfections and sanding scratches and allows the car to be perfectly blocked smooth for a terrific final look.

Sand, sand sand!  The gray area in the background on this Volkswagen restoration shows the guide coat that’s been applied.  When block sanding large surfaces it’s helpful to spray a light coat of cheap spray paint on the area before sanding.  As the topmost layer of material is removed by sanding the guide coat disappears, revealing what’s been sanded properly and what still needs to be sanded off.

As the polyester primer is sanded down and the final shape is coming into view the low spots get filled with a light film.  And then there’s more sanding!
